Original Katong Laksa (Janggut)
Janggut Laksa lays claim to being among the originals of Katong laksa, the style named after the east-coast neighbourhood where it was born. 'Janggut' (meaning 'bearded') was the nickname of the founder, and the recipe has been handed down with its signature thick, prawn-and-coconut gravy. As with all Katong laksa, the noodles are cut short and eaten with a spoon, piled with cockles and fishcake. The lineage and the bragging rights are part of the draw, so it's a fun stop on a Katong-versus-everyone laksa crawl. Order it with extra cockles and a side of otah.
