The best-known name in Katong laksa, with a rich, spicy coconut-curry broth piled high with prawns, cockles, fishcake and tau pok. In the Katong style the thick rice noodles are cut short, so the whole bowl is eaten with just a spoon — no chopsticks needed. The gravy is built on dried shrimp and a fragrant rempah spice paste, finished with a scoop of laksa leaf (daun kesum). It shot to fame after beating Gordon Ramsay in a televised hawker cook-off, and now has a couple of outlets along East Coast Road. Order it 'with everything', add a side of otah, and ask for extra cockles if you love them.
