East Coast Park is the city's favourite stretch of seaside — a 15-kilometre ribbon of casuarina-shaded beach and lawn reclaimed from the sea in the 1970s. On weekends it fills with locals cycling and skating the coastal path, picnicking, camping and grilling at the BBQ pits, while cargo ships drift along the horizon. Rent a bike or a quirky pedal-kart, cool off in the sea breeze, then feast on chilli crab and satay at the East Coast Lagoon Food Village, an open-air hawker centre right by the sand. It's free, breezy and very Singaporean. Sunrise here is lovely, and it's an easy detour on the way to or from Changi Airport.
