Ann Siang Hill & Club Street

On a small, leafy rise at the edge of Chinatown, Ann Siang Hill and the adjoining Club Street are a beautifully restored enclave of two- and three-storey shophouses — once clan associations and trade guilds, now home to some of Singapore's best cafés, cocktail bars, boutiques and restaurants. By day it's quiet and photogenic, all pastel facades, plantation shutters and bougainvillea; come dusk, the pedestrianised streets fill with an after-work crowd spilling out of the bars. Duck into the tiny Ann Siang Hill Park for a shortcut and a breather, or hunt down the speakeasies hidden behind unmarked doors. It's where the city comes to unwind — best experienced in the early evening with a drink in hand.
