The Blue Ginger

The Blue Ginger has been serving refined Nyonya home cooking from a restored Tanjong Pagar shophouse since 1995, one of the city's most dependable Peranakan kitchens. Signature dishes include ayam buah keluak, ngoh hiang, and a much-loved chicken cooked with candlenuts, all meant to be shared over rice. The two-storey shophouse setting is warm and unfussy, hung with Peranakan touches without tipping into theme-park territory. It's a comfortable, sit-down counterpoint to hunting laksa at hawker stalls, and a reliable introduction to the cuisine. Reservations are wise at weekends and for dinner.
