Sungei Road Laksa

Sungei Road Laksa is a fiercely traditional stall that still keeps its coconut gravy warm over a charcoal flame, and famously serves bowls at prices that have barely moved in years. The laksa is comparatively light but deeply fragrant, the short-cut noodles swimming in a curry broth topped with cockles and eaten with a spoon. There's no fishcake fuss here — it's all about the gravy and the cockles. The queue moves fast and the bowls are cheap, so it's an easy, authentic stop near Jalan Besar. Add an extra serving of cockles if you're a fan.
