Red Star is one of the last bastions of traditional trolley dim sum in Singapore, an old-school Cantonese banquet hall going strong since 1974. Aunties wheel carts of har gow, char siew bao, custard buns and egg tarts between the tables, and you pick what catches your eye — half the fun is the hunt. The setting is gloriously retro, all round tables and red carpet, popular with multi-generational families at weekend yum cha. Come early on a weekend morning for the widest selection before the favourites run out. It's a nostalgic, characterful experience you won't get at the mall chains.
