Founder Bak Kut Teh

Founder has been ladling out Teochew-style bak kut teh since 1978 and is famous for the wall of photos of celebrities and politicians who've eaten here. The broth is robust and heavy on white pepper, the prime ribs meaty, and free refills keep it flowing. The Balestier original draws long queues, especially for late-night supper, so come off-peak if you can. Add braised pig trotters, salted vegetables, tau pok and a pot of tea to round things out. It's a punchier, more peppery bowl than some rivals — exactly how many locals like it.
