MacRitchie Reservoir

Wrapped around Singapore's oldest reservoir (built in 1868), MacRitchie is the city's most-loved patch of jungle — a genuine slice of wild within the Central Catchment forest. Its star is the TreeTop Walk, a 250-metre suspension bridge swaying 25 metres up among the canopy, reached only by a few hours' trek so it never feels crowded. Boardwalks hug the dark water, troops of long-tailed macaques patrol the trails (don't feed them, and hide your snacks), and monitor lizards bask at the edges. Routes range from a gentle 3-kilometre loop to an 11-kilometre forest circuit, and you can even rent a kayak on the reservoir. Start early, wear proper shoes and carry plenty of water.
