Singapore's flagship performing-arts centre is impossible to miss: its twin domes, clad in thousands of aluminium sunshade spikes, earned it the nation's most affectionate nickname — 'the Durian'. Inside are a world-class concert hall and theatre hosting everything from symphony orchestras to Broadway musicals, but you don't need a ticket to enjoy it. There are free performances most evenings on the outdoor stage by the bay, a public library devoted to the arts, and a rooftop terrace with one of the best free skyline views in town. The waterfront promenade outside is a prime spot for the Marina Bay light show and Merlion photos. Check the calendar — there's almost always something free on.
